Lymphoedema Physiotherapy

Services

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues, most commonly in the arms or legs. It occurs when the lymphatic system is damaged or underdeveloped, preventing proper drainage of lymph fluid. This may be due to cancer treatment, surgery, infection, or congenital issues.

Our Physiotherapy Services

Cancer and lymphoedema physiotherapy focuses on managing and reducing swelling (lymphoedema) that can occur after cancer treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system is damaged or obstructed, causing fluid to accumulate, typically in the arms or legs. Physiotherapists use techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, and specialized exercises to help improve lymph flow, reduce swelling, and improve mobility.

The goal of this therapy is to enhance quality of life, prevent complications, and aid in recovery following cancer treatments.
